“Transgender WTF” by Van B.
My final project for a feminist performances class. I chose to do a web comic of myself and how I feel about being trans/what trans means to me. It’s part of a more extensive project/paper, creating a new trans narrative not based on self/societal hatred or violence, the denial of the former self, etc. Just because I’m a transman doesn’t mean I follow traditional masculinity. (This also extends to transwomen.)Yes, I paint my nails. I love things that have glitter. I am fabulous. I am and always will be trans, and I’m proud of that.
We hope you’re enjoying the comics! Van has been invited to create a storyboard with a fellow illustrator/animator, so we’ll see more shortly.
Feel free to reblog/repost, just give Van B. credit! :)

“In Australia the main/only anti androgens I could find available are Cyprone, Cyprostat, Cyproterone Acetate (the generic name), Procur, Cyprohexal and Androcur. If you follow any of those drug links you’ll see they can only be prescribed for:

1014    Advanced carcinoma of the prostate; 1404    To reduce drive in sexual deviations in males.

You have to fit in to one of these two categories to get the drug*. So, unless you have pretty much incurable prostate cancer, if you need an anti-androgen in Australia – and can’t afford a non-subsidised prescription – your doctor has probably had to get a little inventive with the prescription and classify you as a ‘sexual deviant’. What’s in a label, right? Well, if you are classified as a ‘sexual deviant’ and prescribed this medication then the Therapeutic Goods Administration will put you on their list of possible sex offenders. That’s right. In Australia we like to classify intersex and trans women as possible sex offenders. It can’t just be argued away as a bureaucratic list. It’s dehumanising for people who already have enough trouble being treated as human beings.
And, seriously, who knows how the TGA information is being shared or with who. Does Centrelink? The DOCS? Next time we have another sex-offenders-not-in-our-neighbourhood panic are we going to start pulling TGA files and combining them with the various state sex offender lists?” - Source
* i am almost 100% sure that “get the drug” is shorthand for “get the drug with government subsidy under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme” but im not entirely certain what the situation is with private healthcare!

This just… I… It just makes me want to give up to be honest.

me ranting about getting misgendered while wearing signs about my gender on my shirt.

“At the end of the day, it really wears me down to have so many people reinforcing to me that unless I do something to my body, people are not going to see me as I am.”

Diversity Lesson 101: “Pansexuality”
Pansexual is a term that has been growing in recent years as a way for people to better identify their sexual identity. The word Pansexual is derived from the Greek prefix pan, meaning “all”. The term is reflective of those who feel they are sexually/emotionally/spiritually capable of falling in love with all genders. Definition:Pansexuals have the capability of attraction to others regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. A pansexual could be open to someone who is male, female, transgender, intersex, or agendered/genderqueer.
(above text from: queersunited.blogspot.com)

…. why is “transgender” listed separate from male and female? Being trans does no automatically make them a a third, separate gender. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. The only time a trans* person should be considered “third gender” is if that is how they self-identify. The only person who gets to decide someone’s gender is themselves, and it doesn’t matter what you’ve got in your pants.
